The prescription is one of the most important therapeutic transaction between physician and patient.

 Prescription is a written order from a registered medical practical to pharmacist for patient.

The prescription also include the direction for the patient regarding the more of administration of drugs.
Prescription means an order to take medicine.

Prescription are made for three categories of drugs-;

1. Over the counter drugs (OTC) -;

Drugs which can be despenced to patient without the prescription.
Example-; Paracetamol tablet, vicks

2. Prescription and legend drugs-;

The drugs which may not be dispensed by a pharmacist to patient without prescription.
Example-; Sleeping pils( Alphrazolm) , CNS etc

3. Controlled drugs -; 

Along with prescription these drugs , require Additional safe good for storage, both the state and federal government agencies genrate regulation regarding these drugs .

Parts of prescription-;

Prescription are generally written on a tipical formate which are usually kept of pads .

A tipical prescription consists of following parts—
1. Date 
2. Name , Age , sex and address of the patient.
3. Supercription - Rx 
4. Inscription
5. Subscription
6. Signcetura
7. Renewal instracte 
8. Registration of prescriber 

1.Date-;

It helps a prescriber to find out the date of prescribing the medicine.
The prescription which prescribe nonoctic or habit forming must bear the date and abide the mis use of prescription.

2. Name , age , gender and address of the patient-;

Name , age ,gender and address of the patient must be written in the prescription because it help to identify the prescription and patient.

Age and gender of the patient helps to check the prescribe dose of medication.

3. Supercription -;

It is replesented by the symbols Rx it is always written at the bigning of the prescription according to mythology the Rx symbol was considered as a prayer to God , Rx abbreviations of the Latin words meaning " You take medicine".

4. Inscription-;

It is the main part of the prescription it contains the name and contity of prescribe ingredients. Generally  the vehicle or dilovents at last.

5. Subscription-;

This part of prescription contain prescribers direction regarding the dosage form to be prepare now days only of a few prescription compounded there such direction are less frequent.

6. Signcetura-;

It's abbreviated. " Sig". On the prescription and consist of the direction to be given to the he patient regarding administration of the drugs.
Example-; O.D — once in the day 
                   BiD  — twice ( bis) in the day 
                    TiD — three times in the day
                     QiD — four ,,. ,,. ,, 
                       AP — Before eat

7. Renewal instructions-; 

It is very important in the prescription containing the nonoctic drug and habit farming drugs is miss used. 

8. Signature address and registration of prescriber-;

All other parts of prescription may be all type written but the prescriber name must be hand written and should signed with ink this formate elimine the danger of dispensing medicament.
